The RCMP Sunset Ceremonies are colorful events that include a foot-drill display, a cannon drill, and the ceremonial lowering of the Canadian flag to the playing of “Retreat”. The event ends with a march past and a formal salute to the review officer.

Public access to the RCMP Academy is available through the RCMP Heritage Centre entrance at 5907 Dewdney Avenue. Gates open at 5:30 pm and the events start at 6 pm. All Depot Sunset Ceremonies are free of charge. The RCMP Academy is an active training site and a secure facility. Access is controlled. Personal items may be searched on entry. This event potentially includes live field gun and/or rifle fire. We recommend guests bring hearing protection, especially for young children. Please do not bring your pets. Service dogs are welcome. Sunset Ceremonies are outdoor, community events. Please bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Seating is not provided.

These events draw larger crowds who walk from the RCMP Heritage Centre parking lot to the RCMP Academy. We encourage guests with mobility needs to arrive early and park closest to the south end of the parking lot. The RCMP Heritage Centre will operate a vehicle for those with mobility issues.
